Primer Time in Green

Here is the plane just before being rolled over to the paint shop. It is about 4 different colors of mottled primer and epoxy.

One of the great things about Smoketown is that there is a terrific mechanic at Dutchland Aviation, a great paint shop, Lancaster Aero Refinishers and an interior shop, Sierra Aircraft Interiors all on the field. When the time comes, I just roll it from one to the other.

Here it is at last. I decided to fly it in primer before the final paint is applied. I didn't really expect green primer, but its no worse than grey.

Sean and Katie check out the new paint job. They like the green.

Here is a 3/4 shot. It looks good. I can't wait to get it back to the hangar and get the masking off.

Here it is outside the paint shop, Lancaster Aero Refinishers in Smoketown, PA. Thanks to Lou, Dave and Gary for all their work.

Here is the family with the Green Hornet. Other than the color, Nancy was impressed by the result.

Side view. Of course, now it starts to rain.

Here is a nice 3/4 view.

Front view. Ready to pull in the hangar.

I'm a happy camper. Close inspection reveals a few imperfections to be touched up before final paint, but the paint shop guys cautioned me that some of the minor stuff just can't be seen until it is all in one shiny color. They did a great job.

Here it is back in the hangar with Sean doing a little clean up to help out. People keep stopping by when they see it from the office side of the runway. Everyone asks tentatively " So, are you going to keep it this color?". I can't help messing with them a little.

It looks different all smooth and shiny. I can't say I'm tempted to keep it this color, but it does look like a finished airplane. A couple months more odds and ends work and it is ready for the DAR. Stay tuned.
