Fly in at Lancaster Airport

Every 2 years Lancaster Airport (KLNS) in Lancaster, PA holds Community Days and has a big air show. We had been invited to display the plane in previous years, but weren't able to make it work out. This year, the weather was just perfect and we decided to just show up. Nancy and I took along our friends Garret and Kathryn, who had flown to Oshkosh with us.

We flew over and did three trips through the pattern in heavy traffic before we landed behind a Ford Trimotor. We taxied over to the show area, stopped, and announced that we were a show plane. They dropped the rope and put us in a great spot right between a Defiant and a WWII C47 Commando. Let the games begin.

The C47 loaded up with paratroopers in WWII gear. It took off and they did static line jumps from what seemed like only a few hundred feet right over the plane. It was a great display.

A P51 Mustang did a bunch of very cool low passes. A MIG fighter did low afterburner passes at several hundred knots, but was so fast I couldn't get a good video.

By about 3:30 we were ready to go. We pulled the plane up to the barrier and they let us out onto the ramp. We taxied out and made the quick flight home with no problem, well ahead of the traffic jam that would start when the show ended at 4:00.

Here's a video of our takeoff for home:

We had a great day in perfect weather hanging out by the Velocity watching planes. We have been asked to display the plane in several other upcoming fly ins and look forward to more of this.
